Overview
On 2 August 2014 a massive landslide hit Jure village in Sindhupalchok, destroying settlements and blocking the Sunkoshi River. ICIMOD records 156 deaths and more than 430 people displaced. The blockage also disrupted the highway to China and threatened downstream communities until the impounded water was safely released.
